Dr. John Corso- Bio

Dr. John Corso is a practicing, board-certified internist who has been on the medical front lines for more than twenty years.  After graduating with honors from The University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School in 1985, he completed his medical training at the prestigious UCLA-Harbor Medical Center.

In the 20 plus years since he began practicing, the healthcare system was steadily eroding the quality, time, and rewards of medical practice. No longer willing to compromise, Corso chose to take a radical step into the future by recreating the past.  In 2001, he launched the Personal Access Program.  It is a practice model that offers patients the time, accessibility, and personal relationship that originally defined medical practice.  Patients receive comprehensive and individualized care for a small monthly membership fee that includes same-day appointments, direct access through 24 hour phone and email response, home visits and direct advocacy with specialists, hospital clinicians, and insurers.  The program allows patients to receive highly personalized care aimed at maintaining and restoring health utilizing the most advanced, state-of-the-art methods.

Dr. Corso’s medical expertise includes diagnosis and treatment of diabetes, heart disease, sleep apnea, Adult Attention Deficit Disorder, cancer and myriad other diseases.  His passion however, lies in prevention.  He has made it his personal mission to empower individuals with the knowledge and will to take action. Most people do not know the scope of life-saving technology available to them, because it is not on their menu of medical benefits and may never be mentioned by their physicians.  When someone dies before their time from heart attack, stroke, cancer, or other treatable cause, it represents a failure on the part of the patient, the doctors, and the healthcare system to detect these diseases and intervene when they were easily curable.

Dr. Corso’s commitment to spreading knowledge gained through his medical career extends beyond his practice. He has participated in clinical studies in the area of heart disease and migraine and is a sought-after speaker, sharing his expertise with other physicians and lay-people since 1997.  His popular lecture topics – such as The Newest Life-Saving Medical Tests, stress the importance of modern screening technology and treatments and his first book, Stupid Reasons People Die, An Ingenious Plot for Defusing Deadly Diseases –describes a small number of diseases that are responsible for the vast majority of premature deaths in this country and how to not be one of them.

Corso has the rare ability to explain complex medical issues in easily understandable terms.  His talent for educating the general population has made his presentations popular as well as his radio and print interviews entertaining and effective.  In addition to being an excellent educator, Dr. Corso has strong, albeit, somewhat controversial opinions on “natural supplements”, diet and exercise mantras, the handling of medical news in the media, as well as social issues in healthcare, such as insurance, the physician shortage and the pharmaceutical industry.

At the end of the day, he is the go-to guy in all matters preventive.  When tens of thousands of Americans die each year, in the prime of life, from diseases we can now detect and treat, something is terribly wrong.  Corso is out to set that right.
Dr. Corso also volunteers each month at the Volunteers in Medicine Clinic in his hometown of Bend. VIM is a privately-funded community clinic that provides healthcare for local, uninsured families.
